Overworlds and Underworlds is coming …

The Quay Brothers, Dark Arches, Leeds for Overworlds & Underworlds, Leeds Canvas. Photography Tom Arber 2012

We’re very excited to be welcoming Overworlds and Underworlds to Granary Wharf this month. The Dark Arches which run below Leeds train station sees part of the Overworlds and Underworlds taking place here.

OverWorlds & UnderWorlds is Yorkshire’s contribution to Artists taking the lead, the UK Arts Councils’ flagship project for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. It takes place across Leeds over the weekend of 18th-20th May 2012. As well as things happening all day in the dark arches there will things happening at County Arcade and the streets in between. Leeds has already witnessed a huge tree erupting from the ground on Briggate!

So what is Overworlds & Underworlds?

Leeds Canvas describe it as

“a place where myth penetrates the everyday, where the imagined becomes real and the real imagined.  Worlds around us we have known all our lives, worlds beneath us we have only heard about, worlds we have yet to discover.”

It promises to be a weekend filled with surprises and intrigue.

You can follow the story as it unfolds on twitter @OW_UW or via the website www.overworldsandunderworlds.com

And you can find out more about the Cultural Olympiad via the Leeds Canvas website. www.leedscanvas.com

Or get involved by collecting a map from the Dark Arches, Briggate or County Arcade from 5pm on Friday 18th May, there’s a list below of times:

Finalist in the 2012 Waterways Renaissance Awards

We’re really pleased to have been named a finalist in the 2012 Waterways Renaissance Awards run by The Waterways Trust. Our waterfront is a hugely important part of the development at Granary Wharf so being recognised for our work at Granary Wharf is great.

Being right at the junction of the historically important Leeds-Liverpool canal and the River Aire gives Granary Wharf a calm and peaceful feel right in the middle of Leeds city centre. We provide great facilities for boaters here too.

There’s more information about all the finalists here and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed on 23rd May when the winners are announced.

If you’re interested in coming to have a look around Granary Wharf then get in touch with Nina and Kate in the sales office (granary.wharf@eu.jll.com)or visit the Granary Wharf website for more information.

Parent Purchasers Guide

We’ve seen an increasing number of parents and family helping their kids get on the property ladder and new schemes like FirstBuy are helping to make this much easier.

So we recently produced the ISIS’s Guide to Parent Purchasing which shows that, contrary to popular belief, parents do not necessarily need to have a nest egg sitting in the bank; there are many other relatively risk-free ways that they can help their child.

The guide sets out a range of scenarios - you’ll be surprised at the range of options available.

You can download a PDF copy of the guide below or pick up a copy and get more information from the ISIS sales office at Granary Wharf. Or visit the Granary Wharf website for more details.

Our new ‘springtime’ show apartments

At our recent open house event we showed people around our two new show apartments and we thought you might like to see some photos too.

Our show apartments are a great way to see how an apartment looks and feels when it’s filled with furniture and homely touches.

See the full set over on Flickr.

Well you’ve probably heard by now that our newest commercial tenant VINeataly has opened at Granary Wharf. It describes itself as  ’the first and only “enoteca gastronomica” of the North.’ VINeatlay is trying to create an authentic Italian wine bar that goes further… open in the mornings for coffee, late into the evening for wine, cocktails and home made italian food.

And if you’re a resident of Granary Wharf be sure to make yourself know, we hear there are some opening offers for Granary Wharf residents until May.

You can find out more VINeataly and sign up for updates from them on their website http://www.vineataly.com

Feature Wall Wallpapers

Feature walls are all the rage at the moment. We’ve all been living with neutral colours for ages now and they’re great but sometimes we do like a splash of colour and if you want to make a statement then some of these great wallpapers from Wallpapers Direct might just be the perfect solution. Rather than picking a colour for the whole room a feature wall allows you to add some colour but keep the rest of the room neutral.

If you go for a feature wall then make sure it fits with your soft furnishings and of course compliments the neutral colour.

You can find this Pip Studio Range on Wallpapers Direct.

End of First Time Buyer Stamp Duty Relief

Open House - Thursday 8th March 5.30-7.30pm

Now is definitely the time to buy if you’re a first time buyer to save yourself up to £1,250 in stamp duty fees. On 25th March first time buyers will no longer get stamp duty relief up to £250,000, it’s coming down to £125,000. Given that the average house price in Leeds is £170,624 according to a survey by the BBC at the end of 2011 it means that it makes getting that all important deposit together even more difficult as you’ve also got to find extra to pay the stamp duty.

To qualify for the relief you must have completed and paid all money’s before the deadline so there’s not actually much time left to take advantage.

Don’t despair though if you come down to our Open House Event tonight between 5.30pm and 7.30pm we’re offering some great incentives. If you pop down to view our two new bespoke show apartments and then decide to buy before the end of March we’ve got a very limited offer worth £2,000. This could be a combination of:

• £1000 towards consultation and furniture from our Granary Wharf interior designer

• £1000 towards service charge

• £1000 towards solicitors fees

• One year free parking

• £1000 vouchers for www.love2shop.com.uk

*Terms and Conditions apply please check them out on the Granary Wharf website.

Double Award Winner at Leeds Awards

Last Thursday saw Granary Wharf celebrating two award wins at the Leeds Architecture Awards. Both residential developments, Waterman’s Place and Candle House won in the New Building category. We’re really pleased to see these awards joining our awards shelf.

Architects of Candle House, Carey Jones also produced this brilliant table decoration specially for the evening. It certainly made a statement and caught some admiring glances. And for those curious to know, it’s a print out on acetate and it is in the sales office if you want to have a look at it.

Wall Vinyls

If you’ve been around any of our show apartments you’ll have noticed that we love wall vinyls. They’re a brilliant way to add detail and interest to plain walls and furniture. They don’t damage the surface and come off easily when you want them to.

They start at around £15-£30 for a small one and go up to around £150 for something that would cover an entire wall.

We’ve found some nice one’s on the Spin Collective website.  And also a really big range at Wall Tattoo or just search online for Wall Vinyls - there are loads out there.

How Many Windows?

Tonight we’re heading to the Leeds Architecture Awards because both residential developments at Granary Wharf have been shortlist in the New Buildings category.

To celebrate making the shortlist twice we’re holding a mini twitter competition for one day only. One lucky tweeter could win £50 of Out of the Woods vouchers, smoothie heaven!

Ok so what have you got to do?
If you were looking up at Candle House yesterday you might have noticed the window cleaner suspended on a cable down the side. Cleaning the windows on this landmark building takes a while, there are a lot of windows.

So to enter you need to guess how many windows are there on Candle House, tweet us your best guess including the hashtag #candlehouse and we’ll draw a winner from all the correct entries tomorrow.

We’re only accepting entries via Twitter so you need to @granarywharf to make sure we see it, and you can enter up until midnight tonight. We can only accept one entry per person so make your first answer count.

The small print:

  • The correct answer has been supplied by the architects Carey Jones who designed Candle House so your answer needs to match theirs.
  • If no one gets the exact answer we’ll pick the closest under-estimate.
  • If more than one person gets the answer right we’ll put all correct answers in a hat and draw a winner.
  • Anyone found to be using multiple accounts to enter will be ineligible.
  • Multiple entries will not be accepted.
  • You must include @granarywharf somewhere in your tweet. If you don’t we won’t be able to include your entry.
  • The winner will be contacted via direct message on Twitter.
  • The prize can not be exchanged for cash.
